Advanced DBT

A program specifically designed for DBT skills group graduates who want ongoing support for their DBT practice.

Program Overview

This program is designed specifically for individuals who have completed a DBT skills course and who want the ongoing support of a process group. Unlike our skills groups which are psychoeducational in nature, this program allows individuals to delve deeper into their personal journey with DBT skills while advancing their personal goals.

Program Details

Our advanced DBT program is grounded in a weekly process group that is led by an intensively trained DBT therapist. Groups are limited to 6-10 participants. Unlike other DBT groups, participants are allowed to enter the group at any time.

Our group is designed to help reinforce continued practice and mastery of the DBT skills and provide a supportive atmosphere where members can work together. Each session begins with a mindfulness exercise followed by member check-ins, agenda-setting is determined by the needs of the group members and ends with members establishing and committing to work on certain goals before the next group.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Completion of the standard DBT skills training group lasting at least 6 months and covering all 4 modules (mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness)

  • A minimum of 6 months of not engaging in high target behaviors (e.g., self-harm, suicidal behaviors, or substance abuse)

  • A minimum of 6 months of no psychiatric hospitalizations

  • Have an individual therapist

  • A willingness to give and receive feedback

  • A willingness to commit to a minimum of 8 weeks attendance

I really appreciate what I’ve learned from the others in my DBT process group. Hearing from others and sharing my own struggles has really help unlock more value in the skills than I originally realized was there.
