DBT Program

The DBT Center of Marin provides services to adults, couples, adolescents, families, and groups. We offer training and consultation services to other therapists, organizations, and parents/families. We can tailor a workshop or inservice training to fit the needs of your agency.

At the DBT Center of Marin we offer a comprehensive therapy program. Clients may be referred for group therapy if they are in individual therapy elsewhere. The following components may be included in a DBT program:

  • Individual DBT Therapy – a one-on-one session with a therapist, usually once or twice per week, to work toward personalized targets which the client and therapist collaborate to design. The goal is to apply skills taught in the skills group to clients’ daily life and to to build a life worth living.
  • DBT Skills Training Group – in order to improve the quality of their life people often need to develop new habits for managing life and emotions. In DBT group clients learn these skills in weekly “classes.” Skills include mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and life management. Learning through group facilitators, other group members, experiential practice and homework assignments, clients are able to begin applying these tools to their lives right away.
  • Telephone Coaching – an integral part of a DBT program, phone coaching offers support and encouragement in practicing new skills in their lives between therapy sessions. Clients are encouraged to use phone coaching so that they can apply skills to problems as they arise and in the contexts in which they most need to use the skills.
  • Consultation Team – At the DBT Center we are committed to maintaining a high quality of treatment. In consultation team we work together to help create the best treatment programs for our clients, to keep each other apprised of the most recent research findings, and share resources.
  • Ancillary Services – we help link our clients to any additional resources and information available in the community such as psychopharmacology, career development, case management, etc.
