Dr. Alicia Smart brings a wealth of experience to her work, spanning diverse age groups from children to older adults. She is dedicated to providing specialized care in the domains of mood disorders, personality disorders, grief and loss, anxiety, relationship challenges, and trauma.

Dr. Smart has garnered extensive expertise through her training in a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT), Prolonged Exposure Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (PE-DBT), Emotion-Focused Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and DBT for Children (DBT-C).

 
 

Dr. Smart has emerged as an authority in DBT, providing DBT training sessions at multiple reputable organizations, including Child Training Insitute, Marin County Community Mental Health, Apple Family Works, Community Options for Family and Youth, Bayside Marin, Alta Mira, Mind Therapy Clinic, and Marin CAMFT.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Smart is also a co-founder of Therahive, where she brings her knowledge of DBT to a larger online psychoeducation platform. Her background in program evaluations, combined with her passion for DBT and commitment to enhancing the field of psychology, make her a valuable asset to both her clients and fellow clinicians. Background & Licensure


Her educational journey includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University and the successful attainment of a Doctorate in Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. During her clinical training, Dr. Smart gained valuable experience at the Institute on Aging, South of Market Mental Health Services, and Marin County Mental Health Services.

She possesses an impressive track record of over twelve years of group facilitation, covering a wide spectrum of topics, including depression, anxiety, anger management, DBT skills, caregiver support, and bereavement processes.
